The Conversation Map® Experience

Engaging People to Act on the Information They Learn

Conversation Map programs include learning experiences that give participants the information and peer support they need to help them achieve Personal Health Engagement®. Conversation Map programs differ from traditional methods of health education by actively engaging people with the information they learn and helping them to make workable plans for achieving their personal health goals.

Conversation Map programs engage people using four key components.

1. Face-to-face interaction

Active, small-group participation is the central component of Conversation Map programs. During each session, participants and a trained session facilitator engage in open, productive discussions about health information and how it relates to their own personal experiences. After these conversations, participants are encouraged to create workable plans to use what they’ve learned to make the long-term behavior changes that can improve their health.

2. Conversation Map education tools

The Conversation Map education tools inform the face-to-face discussions with credible, evidence-based health information participants can use in their everyday lives. Healthy Interactions collaborates with leading associations for the content of each tool.

The Conversation Map® is a tabletop display of visuals that helps participants contextualize the information they learn. Each Conversation Map focuses on a specific topic related to the main Conversation Map program topic.

The Conversation Questions® introduce relevant, up-to-date topics, facts and tips that inspire useful, lively conversations. Printed on cards, the Conversation Questions create a game-like feel as participants move through the Conversation Map.

3. Conversation Map facilitator

Using the Conversation Map facilitator’s guide, the facilitator navigates participants through the Conversation Map education tools and keeps the face-to-face discussions focused on the information that matters most to each participant. Throughout the session, the facilitator maintains a comfortable setting that invites an open exchange of ideas and strategies related to the topic at hand.
