Over Two Million People With Diabetes Will Advance Their Self-Care By Experiencing Healthy Interactions Innovative Diabetes Conversation Map® Program In 2008
CHICAGO, APRIL 7, 2008 - Healthy Interactions, Inc., a company devoted to inspiring personal health change, today announced it has successfully trained and equipped more than 10,000 healthcare professionals with a radically new approach to Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) among patients. Additionally, Healthy Interactions U.S. Diabetes Conversation Map® Program now meets the American Diabetes Association recognition criteria for a complete DSME curriculum.
The U.S. Diabetes Conversation Map tools were developed by Healthy Interactions in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association, and the training and distribution of the tools are sponsored by Merck. Since launching at the June 2007 American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions, the demand and use by healthcare professionals of the U.S. Diabetes Conversation Map program has been so strong that Healthy Interactions realized its three-year goal of training 10,000 healthcare professionals in just 10 months.
Healthy Interactions extensive growing network of trained healthcare professionals will help to facilitate new groundbreaking programs that will apply Healthy Interactions unique learning methodologies to several other significant disease categories and societal challenges, according to the Company.
"We're gratified to see that Healthy Interactions, together with our network of healthcare professionals trained in our approaches, is making a very real and important difference in diabetes care across the country. This year alone, Healthy Interactions will make it possible for two million diabetes patients to have a Conversation Map experience, which will dramatically improve their ability to manage the disease and live their best lives," said Peter Gorman, co-founder of Healthy Interactions.
More About The U.S. Diabetes Conversation Map Program
The Conversation Map program success stems from its inventive approach. People living with diabetes are exposed to a lively, dynamic conversation where small groups of engaged participants are captivated by a thought provoking visual and real-world dialogue between patients and between patients and diabetes healthcare professionals. The Conversation Map program taps into the transformative power of conversation to drive change and is built on the belief that people don’t just learn and get engaged by hearing something; they learn by hearing, exploring, seeing, discussing and doing.
Healthy Interactions Conversation Map programs have been widely used in North America since 2005. In Canada, and more recently in the U.S., Conversation Map tools are dramatically improving healthcare professionals' ability to hold effective group training sessions and improving patients' engagement level and receptiveness to behavior change. As of March 2006, over 65 percent of diabetes education centers in Canada were trained and equipped to use Diabetes Conversation Map tools in their practices.
