"The Conversation Map session personalizes the patients' management of diabetes because the sessions give them the opportunity to share their story and also learn from other people who are on the same journey for control of their diabetes."

I have been using the Diabetes Conversation Map education tools for almost two years & will never go back to the 'traditional' way of teaching. I learn so much more about my patients. It is refreshing as an educator and the patients actually enjoy the experience! My patient satisfaction scores have increased. One patient who attended our program a few years back recently attended again and commented "these classes are so interactive and I've learned so much more!" |

| Craven, Eris MS, RD, LD It allows the more educated and experienced participants with diabetes to educate the participants who are lacking diabetes knowledge...
I have been using the Conversation Map education tools for conducting diabetes education classes for 6 months. I love the interaction the Maps encourage between the participants. It allows the more educated/ experienced participants with diabetes to educate the participants who are lacking diabetes knowledge. I have only received positive feedback from the participants of each class I have conducted. The Conversation Map education tools have allowed me to use a game approach to diabetes education and has added a fun element to my classes. It has been a positive addition to our offering for diabetes education. |

| Theros, Frida RD, CDE The maps were so popular, that I ended up doing the Map on Gestational Diabetes for a small group of men...
I work with a Native American tribe. I have used the Conversation Map education tools in our Diabetes Prevention and Control classes. Not all the participants were diagnosed with diabetes, but everyone enjoyed the classes and learned new information. I have had a class with only one participant, and it went surprisingly well. The Maps were so popular, that I ended up using the Gestational Diabetes Conversation Map education tool for a small group of men, and women over the age of 50!!! How is that for a great teaching tool? :) |

| shapera, merle certified diabetes nutrition educator I have been using the maps for the past year and a half and they have helped me to be a much better group diabetes educator...
I have been using the Conversation Map education tools for the past year and a half and they have helped me to be a much better group diabetes educator. I have learned to let my 'students' set their own pace and direction of learning and to let go of much of the control I had felt I needed to assert. Before using the Maps as my own guide, I was defining my teaching mission by the volume of material and standards I needed to cover. The participants were virtually lumped into "one size fits all" style of group education. I can see now that education truly needs to be tailored to the individual participant, their interests and issues. The Maps give people with diabetes an opportunity to let us know exactly what specific self-management tools they need help with understanding and incorporating into their daily routines. The Maps also allow the participants to fill in the gaps in their own knowledge by encouraging thought and discussion. After all, diabetes is their condition, who better to try to come to an understanding and acceptance of it than themselves with the help of each other. With the help of this new facilitation education process, I have seen an overall improvement in blood glucose management as well as achievement in reaching diet, exercise and monitoring goals compared to the educator-centered traditional process of diabetes education we used to employ. |

I have been using the Conversation Map education tools since January. We have group appointments monthly and we have been using them for group education. There has been good feedback - it is less intimidating and not typical classroom education. Great review - allows patients to teach each other. |
